Using ABA to Conceptualize Personality Disorders in the DSM-5: PART 3

The purpose of this workshop is to provide a clear understanding and conceptualization of various diagnoses within Cluster B personality disorders as outlined in the DSM-5. Participants will learn empirically derived facts and considerations when treating individuals with Antisocial Personality Disorders, Borderline Personality Disorders, Histrionic Personality Disorders and Narcissistic Personality Disorders.

This workshop aims to challenge the common belief that Behavior Analysts solely work with individuals diagnosed with ASD, highlighting the effectiveness of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) for individuals with other diagnoses.

The workshop is designed for BCaBA, BCBA, graduate students, LCSW/LMHC's, and licensed psychologists, and offers 2.5 BACB CEU's.

Many times, Behavior Analysts are told the client's diagnosis but have limited understanding of how the diagnosis impacts the modality of the assessment and treatment

It is still not a common practice for Behavior Analysts to receive referrals from other professionals for individuals that are not diagnosed with ASD but rather another diagnosis or a comorbid diagnosis from the DSM-5. To break this stigma, it is imperative to show how ABA can be an effective strategy for individuals with other disorders.

By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:

  •  Identify key features and empirically derived facts of Cluster B disorders
  • Define the symptoms in each disorder in a more objective fashion in order to apply it to FBA.
  • Understand examples of each disorder using ABC contingency.
  • Learn about Millo's Conceptualization of each disorder
  • Stimulate further studies that will prove the effectiveness of using ABA to target DSM-5 Personality disorders in clinical practice.
